Our community was shocked and saddened by the tragic death of former high school basketball star Phillip “Tookie” Stanford II, who completed a suicide on January 25, 2012. The most recent Knox County Youth Risk Behavior Survey (a cooperative project of the Knox County Health Department and Knox County Schools) indicates the high suicide risk facing teens and young adults in our community. On average, in every Knox County Schools high school classroom:
- 3 students contemplate suicide
- 2 students attempt suicide
- 1 student completes a suicide.
Families and community play an important role in helping young people remain emotionally and physically healthy. Learn more about the risk of teen suicide and where to find help. Find out how K-Town helps.
